Humanitarian Workers Face "Unbearable Reality" in Gaza
GAZA CITY, GAZA STRIP - Humanitarian workers in the Gaza Strip are living an "unbearable reality," according to Plan International Country Director Hamida Jahamah. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant groups has created a dire situation for aid workers, who face significant challenges in delivering essential services to the population.
"We're talking about a humanitarian crisis that's been going on for years now," said Jahamah. "The blockade, the lack of access to basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare - it's an unbearable reality for us as humanitarian workers."
According to Jahamah, Plan International has been working in Gaza since 2014, providing aid to over 100,000 children and their families. However, the organization faces numerous obstacles in delivering its services.
"The Israeli blockade is a major challenge," said Jahamah. "It restricts our ability to bring in essential supplies, including food, medicine, and construction materials. We're also limited by the lack of access to certain areas, which makes it difficult for us to reach those who need our help most."
The conflict in Gaza has its roots in a broader regional context. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back decades, with both sides claiming historical and territorial rights to the land.
"The situation is complex and multifaceted," said Dr. Amal Jamal, a professor of Middle Eastern studies at Tel Aviv University. "While Israel has legitimate security concerns, it's also important to recognize the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people."
