Rubik's Cube Gets a $299 Update with Advanced Tech Features
In a move that redefines the classic puzzle toy, Cubios has unveiled the WOWCube, a high-tech version of the iconic Rubik's Cube. Priced at $299, this updated cube boasts 24 mini IPS screens, a gyroscope, accelerometer, speakers, and Bluetooth connectivity.
According to Ars Technica, each of the 24 squares on the toy is a 240x240 IPS display, allowing for a level of visual complexity previously unseen in puzzle toys. The WOWCube's "cubicle modules" are composed of eight individual units, each featuring three screens and a dedicated System-on-Chip (SoC). This advanced architecture enables the cube to run its own CubiOS system, supporting downloadable games and apps.
"We've taken the classic Rubik's Cube and turned it into a full-fledged gaming platform," said Alexey Bokovoy, CEO of Cubios. "The WOWCube is not just a toy; it's an interactive experience that can be customized to suit any user's preferences."
The WOWCube's features include:
24 mini IPS screens with 240x240 resolution
Gyroscope and 6-axis accelerometer for precise control
Eight speakers for immersive sound
Bluetooth connectivity for wireless gameplay
Integrated battery with up to seven hours of playtime
Users can download games and apps from the WOWCube Connect app, which also allows for customization and configuration of the cube's settings. The available content includes classic arcade titles like Block Buster, Space Invaders, and Jewel Hunter.
The Rubik's Cube has been a beloved puzzle toy since its introduction in 1977. Its updated version, the WOWCube, represents a significant departure from the original design while maintaining the essence of the classic toy.
"The WOWCube is an exciting development that showcases the potential for innovation in traditional toys," said Dr. David Schwartz, a professor of interactive design at Stanford University. "It's a testament to the power of technology to transform and enhance everyday objects."
The WOWCube is currently available for pre-order on the Cubios website, with shipping expected to begin in early 2023.
As the WOWCube enters the market, it will be interesting to see how consumers respond to this high-tech take on a classic toy. With its advanced features and customizable content, the WOWCube has the potential to appeal to both nostalgic fans of the original Rubik's Cube and newcomers looking for a unique gaming experience.
