Breaking News: Landslide Claims 21 Lives in Kenya Amid Torrential Rains
At least 21 people have died in a landslide in western Kenya, with more than 30 still unaccounted for, according to the Kenyan government. The disaster occurred in Marakwet East late on Friday night after heavy rainfall.
The Interior Minister, Kipchumba Murkomen, confirmed that 25 people with serious injuries have been airlifted to receive further medical attention. Rescue efforts were paused on Saturday evening but are set to resume on Sunday.
Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and mudslides in the region, making it difficult for rescue teams to access the affected areas. The Kenyan Red Cross is helping to coordinate the response.
Preparations are underway to supply food and non-food relief items to the victims. Military and police choppers are on standby to transport the items.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
