Breaking News: Train Derails in Cumbria, West Coast Mainline Severely Disrupted
A train traveling from Glasgow to London derailed in Cumbria at 06:10 GMT this morning after hitting a landslip. The 04:28 Avanti West Coast service from Glasgow Central to London Euston came off the tracks at Shap in Cumbria.
Four people on board suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment, out of 87 passengers and staff. The derailment has caused significant disruption to the West Coast Mainline, with lines north of Preston and south of Carlisle blocked.
The West Coast Mainline is a critical transportation route, and the disruption is expected to last for several days. TransPennine Express services are also affected, as they use the same line.
Avanti West Coast has confirmed that the train derailed due to a landslip, and emergency services are at the scene. Passengers on board reported hearing a loud noise and seeing the train leave the tracks.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
