Breaking News: Georgian Prisoner Bella Culley Released After Dramatic Intervention
Bella Culley, a 19-year-old pregnant teenager from Billingham, Teesside, has been released from a Georgian prison after prosecutors made a last-minute change to her plea deal. Culley was initially facing up to 20 years in jail for admitting to drug trafficking charges.
Culley walked free from court in Tbilisi arm-in-arm with her mother Lyanne Kennedy, telling reporters she felt "happy and relieved" to be released. Her lawyer, Malkhaz Salakaia, confirmed that prosecutors made the changes due to her age and pregnancy.
The 19-year-old was detained on May 10 after 12kg of marijuana and 2kg of hashish were found in her luggage at Tbilisi International Airport. Her family is now trying to obtain her passport from the police so she can fly out of the country as soon as possible.
This sudden change in Culley's sentence has left her family and supporters stunned, but they are now focused on getting her home safely. The family's priority is to get Culley back to the UK as quickly as possible.
This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
