Breaking News: Worker Fatalities in Rome Medieval Tower Collapse
A worker has died after a partial collapse of a medieval tower in Rome, Italy. Octay Stroici, a 32-year-old Romanian national, was pulled from the rubble at 23:00 local time (22:00 GMT) but was pronounced dead in the ambulance. He was one of four workers trapped after a section of the Torre dei Conti gave way, near the Roman Forum and Colosseum.
Stroici's heart stopped in the ambulance, and doctors at the hospital were unable to save him. Three other workers, including two Romanian nationals, were also rescued, with one in a critical condition. Firefighters described the rescue as an exceptional feat, using drones and rubble clearers to reach the trapped workers.
The Torre dei Conti is a 12th-century tower that has been undergoing restoration work. The incident highlights the risks involved in working on historic sites. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation.
Rescue teams are still on the scene, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
