Breaking News: Algerian Man Recaptured After Shocking Prison Release Mix-Up
Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, a 24-year-old Algerian national, has been arrested by police in the Finsbury Park area of London just 7 minutes ago. He was mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth in south London on October 29th.
Kaddour-Cherif, convicted of indecent exposure in November 2024, was let out of prison without proper notification to the authorities. He was spotted by a member of the public at 11:30 GMT on Friday and taken into custody.
This is the second prisoner released in error from HMP Wandsworth in the same week. William Smith, another inmate, handed himself in on Thursday. At least four other prisoners released in error are still at large.
The incident highlights a concerning trend, with 262 prisoners in England and Wales mistakenly released in the year to March, up from 115 the previous year.
This is a developing story, with ongoing investigations into the cause of the mix-up and efforts to locate the remaining escaped prisoners. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
