Breaking News: Two Escaped Prisoners Still at Large After Botched Release
Two prisoners, freed by mistake in 2024, remain at large, according to the BBC. Another two prisoners, released in error in June 2025, are still missing. This comes as ministers face growing pressure over a series of high-profile mistaken releases.
The escaped prisoners were set free due to administrative errors, sparking a massive manhunt. Authorities are working to recapture the fugitives, with a Ministry of Justice spokesperson stating that the majority of offenders released by mistake are quickly brought back to prison.
The latest incidents follow the mistaken release of a migrant sex offender, Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, from Wandsworth prison in late October. He was arrested on Friday after a police manhunt. Another prisoner, William Smith, handed himself back in to the prison on Thursday.
The Ministry of Justice is cooperating with police to capture the remaining escaped prisoners. Shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick has called for an investigation into the series of mistakes.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
