A 21-year-old man, Djeison Rafael, has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in the neck in Birmingham city centre. The attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre on Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday.
The victim, a woman in her 30s, is in hospital with critical injuries. Rafael is also charged with two counts of assault and possession of a blade. West Midlands Police have described Rafael as a black British national.
Rafael has been remanded to appear before magistrates in Birmingham on Monday. The police investigation is ongoing.
