BREAKING NEWS: Car Explosion Rocks Delhi Red Fort, At Least Eight Fatalities Reported
At least eight people have been killed and 20 injured in a car explosion near Delhi's historic Red Fort. The incident occurred at 18:52 local time (13:52 GMT) when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car carrying three people stopped at a red light and exploded.
The blast damaged nearby vehicles and happened near a metro station close to the Red Fort, one of Delhi's most high-profile landmarks. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed the incident and said police are investigating the cause.
The explosion has put Mumbai, India's financial capital, and the Uttar Pradesh state, which borders Delhi, on high alert. The Red Fort, a popular tourist destination, was evacuated following the blast.
Delhi City police spokesperson Sanjay Tyagi confirmed the deaths and said police are "exploring all possibilities" in the investigation. The cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time.
