Tubi, the free ad-supported streaming service owned by Fox Corp., announced its first slate of exclusive digital-first creator series, featuring a revival of Joey Graceffa's popular murder-mystery show "Escape the Night." The series, which originally aired on YouTube as a four-season original series, racked up over 2 billion views before being canceled in 2020. Tubi has picked up the rights to revive the show, with a new series premiering later this month.
According to Tubi, the new slate of creator-led series also includes content from KevOnStage, Rock Squad, TheOneShu, Bigg Jah, and Dan Riya. The lineup is designed to appeal to Tubi's growing audience of young viewers who are increasingly turning to streaming services for original content. "We're thrilled to bring these talented creators to Tubi, offering our viewers a unique and diverse range of content that they won't find anywhere else," said Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi.
The revival of "Escape the Night" is a significant coup for Tubi, which has been aggressively expanding its slate of original content in recent months. The show's creator, Joey Graceffa, expressed his excitement about the revival, saying, "I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to bring 'Escape the Night' back to life on Tubi. The show has always been a passion project for me, and I'm thrilled to be able to share it with a new audience."
The revival of "Escape the Night" marks a significant shift in the streaming landscape, as traditional TV networks and streaming services increasingly turn to creator-led content to appeal to younger viewers. According to industry analysts, the rise of creator-led content has been driven by the success of platforms like YouTube and TikTok, which have given creators the tools and audience to produce high-quality content on their own terms.
Tubi's move to revive "Escape the Night" is also seen as a strategic play to appeal to the growing demographic of young viewers who are increasingly turning to streaming services for original content. As the streaming wars continue to heat up, Tubi's decision to invest in creator-led content is seen as a key move to establish itself as a major player in the market.
The new series of "Escape the Night" is set to premiere later this month on Tubi, with additional creator-led series from KevOnStage, Rock Squad, TheOneShu, Bigg Jah, and Dan Riya also in development. As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Tubi's move to invest in creator-led content pays off.
