Breaking News: 85-Year-Old British Woman Fatally Injured in Storm at Portuguese Campsite
An 85-year-old British woman has died after an extreme wind storm struck a campsite in Portugal's Algarve region. The incident occurred at Albufeira Camping Park on Saturday, with the storm lasting from 11:00 GMT to 15:00 GMT.
Two others were seriously injured and three sustained minor injuries at the campsite. At a nearby hotel, 23 people were slightly injured. In total, 28 people were injured across both sites, including six children aged between two months and seven years, and 23 adults.
The storm caused significant damage, with video footage showing fallen trees, debris, and vehicles with broken windows. The Portuguese National Meteorological Office, IPMA, is assessing whether a tornado occurred in the area, with radar images indicating a high likelihood.
