Breaking News: 85-Year-Old British Woman Fatally Injured in Portugal Storm
An 85-year-old British woman has been killed in an extreme wind storm that struck a campsite in Portugal's Algarve region. The woman was among 28 people injured at Albufeira Camping Park and a nearby hotel in Albufeira, Faro's district.
The storm, which hit the area around 11:00 GMT on Saturday, left two others seriously injured and three with minor injuries at the campsite. At the nearby hotel, 23 people were slightly injured. Six children, aged between two months and seven years, were lightly injured, along with 23 adults.
National meteorological office IPMA is assessing whether a tornado occurred in the area, with radar images indicating a high likelihood. The storm lasted until 15:00 GMT on Saturday, causing significant damage, including fallen trees and debris.
Emergency services are currently responding to the incident, and the injured are being treated at local hospitals. The investigation into the cause of the storm is ongoing.
