Breaking News: Keyless Car Theft Devices Flood Online Markets for £20,000
A new law is imminent to ban devices used in car thefts, but experts warn it may not stop gangs who are loaning them out for large sums. Keyless car theft devices, used by criminals to steal cars without breaking in, are being sold online for over £20,000.
The devices, which can access cars including Lamborghinis and Maseratis, are being sold for up to 25,000 euros (22,000). A doorbell camera captured footage of a gang using one of these gadgets to steal a car from outside a home in Wolverhampton.
Abbie Brookes-Morris, the owner of the stolen car, described the theft as "an invasion". Her car was stolen while she and her partner slept, despite not being physically inside the house.
The devices work by bouncing the signal from a key inside a property to open a car. Experts say the ban on owning these devices may not be effective, as gangs will continue to loan them out for large sums.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
