Breaking News: Met Office Issues Critical Warnings as -12C Temperatures Sweep UK
The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for snow and ice across Scotland and northern England, effective Tuesday, as temperatures plummet to as low as -12C. Yellow and amber cold-health alerts have also been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for northern England and the Midlands.
Temperatures have dropped 3-6C below the mid-November average, with the northerly wind dragging cold Arctic air across the UK. The UKHSA has issued yellow cold-health alerts for the Midlands and northern England until 08:00 GMT Friday, while amber alerts have been issued for North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humber for the same period.
November has seen an unusually mild start, with temperatures 3-6C above average. However, the sudden drop in temperature has caught many off guard. The Met Office warns that the cold snap will continue to affect the UK until the end of the week, with temperatures expected to turn less cold by then.
Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, including dressing warmly and checking on vulnerable neighbors. This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
