Breaking News: 50 Schoolchildren Freed, Rescue Efforts Ongoing in Nigeria
Fifty schoolchildren, aged between 10 and 18, have escaped captivity in Nigeria after being abducted from a Catholic school in north-central Niger state. The children, who were among 303 taken, are now with their families.
The escape comes as a relief to distraught families, but 253 schoolchildren and 12 teachers remain in the hands of kidnappers. The Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger state and the school's proprietor, confirmed the escape and the current situation.
The schoolchildren were abducted on November 22, 2025, in Papiri community, Niger state. The incident is one of the largest school abductions in Nigeria's history.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with authorities working to secure the release of the remaining students and teachers. The situation remains fluid, and further updates are expected.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
