SoftBank and Nvidia in Talks to Fund Skild AI at $14 Billion Valuation
SoftBank Group and Nvidia are reportedly in discussions to lead an investment of over $1 billion in Skild AI, a software company valued at nearly $14 billion. This proposed investment would nearly triple the startup's valuation, which was last reported at $4.7 billion in May when it raised $500 million in a round led by SoftBank, alongside LG Technology Ventures, Samsung, Nvidia, and other investors.
The investment would be a significant milestone for Skild AI, which has been developing a foundational robotics model that can be customized for various types of robots and use cases. Unlike other heavily funded startups, Skild AI is not building proprietary hardware, instead focusing on creating a robot-agnostic foundation model. The company unveiled its general-purpose robot model, Skild Brain, in July, showcasing its capabilities through videos demonstrating robots picking up dishes and climbing stairs.
Skild AI has secured strategic partnerships with LG CNS and Hewlett Packard Enterprise to develop its ecosystem. The company's focus on software-based robotics solutions has resonated with investors, who are increasingly interested in the potential of AI robotics. Physical Intelligence, another company developing brains for a broad range of robots, has reportedly recently raised $600 million.
The proposed investment by SoftBank and Nvidia would be a significant vote of confidence in Skild AI's technology and business model. SoftBank, a leading technology investor, has a track record of backing innovative startups with high growth potential. Nvidia, a leading provider of graphics processing units (GPUs), has been actively investing in AI-related startups and has a strong interest in the robotics space.
The investment would also reflect the growing interest in AI robotics, a sector that has seen significant investment in recent years. As companies like Skild AI and Physical Intelligence develop more sophisticated robotics solutions, they are poised to transform industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare. The proposed investment would be a significant step towards realizing this potential.
In the coming years, Skild AI is likely to play a key role in shaping the future of robotics and AI. With its focus on software-based solutions and its strategic partnerships, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for AI-powered robotics. As the investment landscape continues to evolve, Skild AI's technology and business model are likely to be at the forefront of the industry's growth and innovation.
