Breaking News: Congress Demands Action Against Companies Exploiting Disabled Vets
A group of 43 members of Congress is calling for immediate action against unaccredited companies charging disabled veterans for help filing for disability benefits with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This comes after NPR reported last week that these companies are using aggressive tactics to make millions off of veterans, potentially violating federal law.
The lawmakers are demanding that the VA take swift action to stop these companies, which are often referred to as "claim sharks." They are also urging the VA to provide better support to veterans seeking disability benefits.
According to NPR's investigation, some veterans have been charged thousands of dollars by these companies, despite being entitled to free support from accredited services. One veteran, Erik Jensen, was charged $12,000 by a company called Trajector Medical.
The VA has warned its lawyers that these companies may be violating federal law, but so far, no action has been taken. The lawmakers are now putting pressure on the VA to take immediate action.
This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
