At SuiteWorld 2025, Evan Goldberg, founder and EVP of Oracle NetSuite, announced the company's biggest product evolution in nearly three decades, dubbed NetSuite Next. This significant development marks a shift in how NetSuite approaches artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on governing AI responsibly and making its actions traceable, permissions enforceable, and outcomes auditable.
According to Brian Chess, SVP of Technology and AI at NetSuite, every company is experimenting with AI, but the challenge lies in governing AI responsibly. Chess and Gary Wiessinger, SVP of Application Development at NetSuite, are working to extend the principles that have guided NetSuite's strategy for 27 years - security, control, and auditability - into the AI era. This approach is centered on the concept of a "glass box," where AI actions are transparent and accountable.
The "glass box" philosophy is essential in an era where AI is increasingly being used in various industries, from healthcare to finance. By making AI actions traceable, NetSuite aims to build trust in AI systems and ensure that they are used responsibly. Chess notes that some AI ideas hit the mark, while others don't, but each one teaches us something, which is how innovation works.
NetSuite's approach to AI governance is not just about technology; it's also about societal implications. As AI becomes more pervasive, there is a growing need for accountability and transparency. By making AI actions auditable, NetSuite is contributing to a broader conversation about the ethics of AI.
The development of NetSuite Next is a significant step forward in the company's history. Founded by Goldberg, NetSuite is the world's first cloud computing company. The company's focus on AI governance is a reflection of its commitment to innovation and responsible technology development.
NetSuite Next is currently in development, with the company expected to release more information in the coming months. As the company continues to work on its AI governance framework, it will be interesting to see how it addresses the challenges of AI development and deployment.
In a statement, Goldberg emphasized the importance of responsible AI development, saying, "We believe that AI should be a force for good, and we're committed to making sure that it is used in a way that benefits society as a whole."
