Breaking News: Thieves Strike Bristol Museum, Steal Hundreds of Valuable Items
Over 600 artefacts of significant cultural value have been stolen from Bristol Museum's archive in a brazen raid. The theft occurred in the early hours of September 25 in the Cumberland Basin area of the city. Police have released images of four men captured on CCTV in the area.
The stolen items include military memorabilia, jewellery, natural history pieces, and carved ivory, bronze, and silver figurines. A carved ivory Buddha and a belt buckle from the East India Company uniform were among the items taken. The stolen items were from the collection of the former British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, which was donated to the Bristol Museum after its liquidation in 2013.
Philip Walker, head of culture and creative industries at Bristol City Council, expressed his deep sadness over the thefts. Avon and Somerset Police are investigating the incident and have released images of the four men they want to speak to.
The museum's collection is a significant cultural asset, and the theft of these items will have a lasting impact on the community. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward. This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
