Breaking News: Thousands Wrongly Fined for Speeding, Authorities Launch Investigation
Thousands of drivers in England have been wrongly fined for speeding since 2021 due to a technical fault on motorways and A roads. National Highways has confirmed that 2,650 wrongful speed camera activations occurred, resulting in fines and points on drivers' licenses.
The affected drivers will be contacted by police and reimbursed for any fines, with points removed from their licenses where necessary. National Highways has apologized for the error and emphasized the importance of safety.
The technical issue was caused by a delay between speed cameras and variable speed signs, leading to faulty captures. A temporary fix has been implemented to provide additional data to police forces, allowing them to filter out incorrect captures. However, a permanent fix is still in the works.
National Highways' chief executive, Nick Harris, said, "Safety is our number one priority. All drivers should continue observing the posted speed limits as normal."
This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
