Breaking News: Parole Denied for Stephen Lawrence Killer David Norris
David Norris, one of the killers of 18-year-old Stephen Lawrence, has been denied parole in a shocking ruling. Norris, who was jailed in 2012, had sought release during a parole hearing in October.
The decision was made despite Norris admitting to being part of the racist attack that left Stephen Lawrence dead in 1993. However, he refused to name the other killers involved. Norris's mother, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, had strongly opposed his release, citing concerns for public safety.
Stephen Lawrence was stabbed to death in a gang attack while waiting at a bus stop in Eltham, south-east London. Only two of his killers have been convicted, with police believing six people were involved. Norris was given a life sentence with a minimum of 14 years and three months.
The justice secretary also opposed Norris's release, and the decision to deny parole has been welcomed by Stephen's family. This is a significant blow to Norris, who had been hoping to be released on licence.
This is a developing story, and we will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
