US: White House Denies Trump Signed Alleged Epstein Note
The White House has denied that US President Donald Trump signed a note allegedly written to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2003, according to officials.
The note, which includes a short dialogue between "Donald" and "Jeffrey", was published on social media by Democrats from the US House Oversight Committee after it was delivered by Epstein's estate. The document reads: "A pal is a wonderful thing," continuing with a conversation that alludes to their "wonderful secret."
The White House issued a statement saying, "We have reviewed this matter and can confirm that President Trump did not sign this note." A spokesperson for the president added, "This is just another attempt by Democrats to politicize the Epstein case and distract from their own failures in addressing human trafficking."
Epstein was accused of sexually abusing underage girls who were hired to give him massages. He died by suicide while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges in 2019.
The alleged note has sparked controversy, with some critics accusing Trump of having a close relationship with Epstein despite his claims that he barely knew the financier. "This is just more evidence of the president's questionable judgment and lack of accountability," said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who released the note on social media.
Others have defended Trump, saying the note does not necessarily imply a close friendship between the two men.
