Sabrina Carpenter Outlasts Suede for Second Week as U.K.'s No. 1 Album
LONDON - Sabrina Carpenter's album "Mans Best Friend" has secured its second consecutive week at the top of the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart, dated Sept. 12. The singer-songwriter's seventh studio album has also reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and features a hit single, "Tears," which landed at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
According to the Official Charts Company, Carpenter's album led in the midweeks, with Britpop icon Suede's new LP "Antidepressants" eventually taking second place. Suede has topped the charts three times before, with its debut album "Suede" (1993), "Coming Up" (1996), and a third time in 2007.
"Mans Best Friend" is Carpenter's second album to reach number one in the U.K., following her 2024 release "Short n Sweet." The singer has been making waves with her music and performances, including a recent appearance at the MTV VMAs in New Jersey on Sept. 7. During her set, she honored ballroom icons and displayed messages showing support for the trans and LGBTQ communities.
"We're thrilled to see Sabrina Carpenter's album continue its success," said an Official Charts Company spokesperson. "Her music has resonated with fans worldwide, and it's wonderful to see her commitment to using her platform for good."
Industry insiders note that Carpenter's ability to connect with a diverse audience has been key to her success. "Sabrina's music is not just catchy; it's also meaningful," said music journalist Bryce Anderson. "She's speaking to people who feel seen and heard, which is something we don't see enough of in the industry."
As for Suede, lead singer Brett Anderson (no relation to Bryce) expressed his pride in the band's new album. "We're thrilled that our fans are embracing 'Antidepressants' with such enthusiasm," he said. "It's a testament to their dedication and love for our music."
The U.K.'s Official Albums Chart will continue to be updated weekly, providing insight into the country's musical tastes and trends. With Carpenter's album still leading the pack, it remains to be seen how long she'll hold onto her top spot.
In related news, Suede is set to embark on a European tour in support of "Antidepressants," with dates scheduled for October and November. Meanwhile, Carpenter will continue to promote her album and single "Tears" through various performances and appearances.
