Search Continues for Savannah Guthrie's Mother; FBI Offers Reward
The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, continued into its fifth day, with authorities believing she was still alive. The FBI joined the investigation and offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts, according to officials on Thursday. Nancy Guthrie was believed to have been abducted from her Arizona home early Sunday, authorities said.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated during a press briefing on Thursday, "Right now, we believe Nancy is still out there. We want her home." He added that no suspect or person of interest had been identified in the case.
The FBI was taking a ransom note seriously, according to Heith Janke, the special agent in charge of the FBI's field office in Phoenix. The note included a deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday. "If a transfer wasn't made, then I think a second demand was for next Monday," Janke said, declining to provide details about the demands.
Separately, an individual was arrested for making a phony ransom demand in connection to the case. Authorities referred to the arrested individual as an "imposter."
