A Jersey charity, The Grace Trust, reported that it extends "the Christmas spirit right through the year" by supporting vulnerable individuals facing poverty, loneliness, or addiction. General manager Vinni Jones stated that the organization assists between 700 and 750 people annually and has observed a growing diversity in those seeking help, including an increase in older individuals requiring community support.
Operating from its base on Lewis Street in St Helier, the Grace Trust aims to uplift individuals through various initiatives. Jones highlighted the food bank, which serves 500 people each year, along with singing groups, art programs, and Saturday lunches. He emphasized the welcoming atmosphere, encouraging those in need to simply visit.
The Christmas season saw heightened activity, with the trust providing extra festive items at the food bank. Recently, 92 people attended a Christmas meal at St Paul's Centre, supported by 20 volunteers. Entertainment was provided by Fiddler's Green and the trust's Parklife choir. Jones noted that Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for many, leading to increased demand for the trust's services.
The Grace Trust's work reflects a broader trend of community organizations stepping in to address social needs. As traditional support systems evolve, charities like the Grace Trust play a crucial role in providing assistance and fostering a sense of belonging. The trust's year-round efforts highlight the ongoing need for support within the community, extending beyond the holiday season.
