UK Drone Users Face New Theory Test for Outdoor Flights
Starting January 1st, many new drone users in the UK are required to pass an online theory test before flying their devices outdoors. The new regulation, implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), applies to drones and model aircraft weighing 100g or more. According to the CAA, this initiative could impact up to half a million people in the UK.
The requirement for a Flyer ID, previously only necessary for heavier drones, now extends to lighter models as well. The CAA believes the new rule is essential to ensure safe drone operation as drones become increasingly popular among consumers.
CAA spokesperson Jonathan Nicholson emphasized the importance of understanding the law, stating that with drones becoming a "common Christmas present," it was crucial for people to know how to comply with regulations. The CAA also requires registration for drones equipped with cameras.
