China launched military exercises around Taiwan on Monday. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) mobilized naval, air, ground, and missile forces. This action serves as a stern warning to those opposing China's claims to the island.

Seven zones of ocean and air space around Taiwan will be sealed off. Live-fire exercises are scheduled for Tuesday. The PLA's Eastern Theater Command is conducting the exercises. Senior Col. Shi Yi, a spokesman, stated the exercises will simulate blockading ports. They also aim to establish Chinese dominance east of Taiwan. This is the first major military exercise around Taiwan since April.

The operation, named Justice Mission 2025, demonstrates China's growing ability to encircle Taiwan. The exercises occurred after the Trump administration proposed an $11 billion arms sale package to Taiwan. This package includes HIMARS artillery systems.

These exercises follow increased tensions between China and Taiwan. China views Taiwan as a breakaway province. Taiwan maintains its independence.
