UK Drone Users Face New Theory Test for Outdoor Flights
Starting January 1st, many new drone users in the UK are required to pass an online theory test before flying their devices outdoors. The new regulation, implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), applies to drones and model aircraft weighing 100g or more.
The CAA estimates that up to half a million people in the UK may be affected by this new requirement. The test is necessary to obtain a Flyer ID, which was previously only required for heavier drones.
According to a CAA spokesperson, Jonathan Nicholson, with drones becoming a "common Christmas present," it was important for people to know how to comply with the law. The CAA initiative aims to ensure safe drone operation amid increasing consumer adoption, requiring registration for drones with cameras.
