China launched live-fire military exercises around Taiwan on Monday. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) mobilized naval, air, ground, and missile forces. The PLA called it a stern warning to those opposing Beijing's claim to the island.
Seven zones around Taiwan will be sealed off for live-fire exercises on Tuesday. These exercises are part of "Justice Mission 2025." This is the first major military exercise around Taiwan since April. Senior Col. Shi Yi stated the exercises simulate blockading ports and establishing dominance east of Taiwan.
The exercises demonstrate China's growing ability to encircle Taiwan. They follow the Trump administration's proposed $11 billion arms sale to Taiwan. This sale includes HIMARS rocket systems.
These are the first major drills since April. Tensions between China and Taiwan remain high.
The PLA will likely continue these exercises in the coming days. The international community is watching closely. Further statements from both China and Taiwan are expected.
