China Proposes Strict AI Regulations to Protect Children and Prevent Harmful Content
China has proposed new regulations for artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at safeguarding children and preventing chatbots from providing advice that could lead to self-harm or violence, according to announcements made this weekend. The proposed rules, which were published in draft form, will also require developers to ensure their AI models do not generate content that promotes gambling.
The move comes amid a surge in the number of chatbots being launched both in China and globally. Once finalized, the regulations will apply to all AI products and services operating within China. This marks a significant step towards regulating the rapidly growing technology, which has faced increasing scrutiny regarding safety concerns throughout the year.
