Donald Trump stated he is "not worried" as China's live-fire Taiwan wargame entered its second day. The drills, a surprise attack simulation, were launched by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Monday and Tuesday. China calls the exercise "Justice Mission 2025."
The PLA fired 27 missiles into waters near Taiwan on Tuesday morning. Taiwan's defense ministry confirmed the launches. The drills involved long-range, live-fire exercises targeting waters north of Taiwan.
Trump said Chinese leader Xi Jinping did not notify him of the drills. He added that he has a "great relationship" with Xi. The US has not issued an official statement beyond Trump's comments.
Tensions between Taiwan and China remain high. China views Taiwan as a breakaway province. Taiwan considers itself an independent nation.
The situation remains fluid. Further military exercises or diplomatic responses are possible. The international community is watching closely.
