Anthony Joshua's camp confirmed the death of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin Lateef Ayodele, in a car crash in Nigeria. The accident occurred on Monday morning on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
The Ogun state police commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, stated that Joshua's car collided with a stationary vehicle around 11 am. Joshua's driver was also injured in the crash. Ghami and Ayodele were pronounced dead at the scene.
Joshua issued a statement expressing his profound sadness. His spokesman confirmed the deaths and described Ghami and Ayodele as integral members of Joshua's inner circle.
Joshua, a British former world heavyweight boxing champion, was in Nigeria. The purpose of his visit remains undisclosed.
Further investigations into the cause of the accident are underway. Funeral arrangements for Ghami and Ayodele are being made.
