Bottled water sold at Waitrose is being recalled due to the possible presence of glass fragments, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned. The recall affects the 750ml No1 Royal Deeside Mineral Water and its sparkling counterpart.
The FSA stated that the potential glass fragments upon opening the bottles "may cause injury and makes it unsafe to drink." Waitrose issued an apology and said it was recalling "some" bottles as a precautionary measure.
Customers who have purchased the affected bottles are advised not to consume the water and to return them to Waitrose for a full refund or contact the company directly. Notices will be displayed in Waitrose stores to inform customers about the recall, according to the FSA.
Royal Deeside water is sourced from natural springs in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. The company produces special batches for Waitrose, which are the subject of this recall. Each bottle retails for approximately £1.60 at Waitrose stores.
The exact number of bottles sold and the proportion affected by the potential contamination remain unclear. The Food Standards Authority urged consumers not to drink the product if they have purchased it.
