Eurostar Services Return to Normal After Channel Tunnel Disruption
Eurostar and Le Shuttle services between the UK and France resumed Wednesday morning after a day of major travel disruption through the Channel Tunnel. Thousands of passengers experienced hours of delays Tuesday after Eurostar cancelled most of its London to Europe services due to an overhead power supply problem and a failed Le Shuttle train that blocked all routes.
Repair work was conducted overnight, allowing rail services to resume in both directions, according to the BBC. However, Eurostar cautioned passengers to check for potential knock-on delays and last-minute cancellations. Most of Eurostar's Wednesday morning services in and out of London St Pancras International were expected to run, but passengers were still advised to confirm their train's status before traveling.
The disruption was caused by two separate incidents: an overhead power supply issue and a Le Shuttle train that broke down within the tunnel, blocking all routes. The combined effect of these incidents led to widespread cancellations and significant delays for travelers on both sides of the Channel.
While Le Shuttle services were mostly operating normally, some delays persisted in Calais, according to multiple news sources. Eurostar is offering compensation to passengers affected by the disruption. In addition, Eurostar is running an extra London to Paris service to accommodate those whose travel plans were affected.
