A devastating fire at a Swiss ski resort bar claimed the lives of approximately 40 people. The blaze erupted at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana around 1:30 AM (00:30 GMT) during New Year's celebrations. Another 115 people sustained injuries, many severely.
The fire's cause remains under investigation, but authorities have ruled out an attack. The incident occurred in the Valais region, a popular tourist destination. The victims include individuals from multiple countries.
Emergency services responded rapidly. Thirteen helicopters, 42 ambulances, and 150 responders were deployed. Sixty injured individuals were transported to Sion hospital, with a significant number in critical condition. The hospital's intensive care unit reached full capacity.
The immediate priority is identifying the deceased. Authorities aim to return bodies to families quickly.
