In Indore, India, families are grieving the deaths of loved ones suspected to have been caused by contaminated tap water in the Bhagirathpura neighborhood. Sunil Sahu, a resident of Indore, regrets giving his five-month-old son, Avyan, cow milk diluted with tap water. Avyan, who was also being breast-fed, was given the diluted mixture, a common practice in Indian families who believe cow's milk is too thick for infants. The family stated they boiled the milk-water mixture before feeding it to Avyan, aware that tap water is unsafe to drink.

Avyan began experiencing diarrhea on Dec. 26 and died within three days, despite treatment from a local doctor. Sahu believes the tap water was responsible for his son's death. Avyan is among several people suspected to have died after drinking contaminated water in the area. More than 200 people have been admitted to hospitals in Indore.

Investigations are underway, but officials have indicated that a pipeline leak led to sewage mixing with drinking water, causing a diarrhea outbreak. The incident highlights the critical importance of water infrastructure maintenance and public health monitoring. The local government is working to identify the source of the contamination and prevent further spread of the illness.
