Anthony Joshua's driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged in Sagamu Magistrates' Court on Friday with causing death by dangerous driving following a car crash in Ogun state, Nigeria, that killed two members of the former heavyweight champion's team. The crash, which also involved Joshua sustaining minor injuries, claimed the lives of Joshua's personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, on Monday.
According to police sources speaking to the BBC, Kayode faces charges related to the fatal incident. Multiple news sources, including The Guardian, reported that the crash occurred when Kayode, allegedly speeding, lost control of the vehicle after a tire burst. The vehicle then collided with a parked lorry on a highway near Lagos.
Joshua was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident. While he sustained minor injuries, Ayodele and Ghami died at the scene. Kayode also sustained minor injuries.
The BBC reported that the incident occurred on Monday. Kayode has been granted bail but remains in custody until the conditions of his bail are met, according to The Guardian. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
