Brex is shifting its AI strategy from agent orchestration to an "Agent Mesh" for autonomous finance, aiming for total automation of its services. The fintech company, according to CTO James Reggio, believes traditional agent orchestration frameworks are becoming limiting as generative AI agents evolve into autonomous systems.
Instead of a centralized coordinator, Brex has developed a network of specialized agents designed to communicate in plain language and operate independently, while maintaining full visibility. "Our goal is to use AI to make Brex effectively disappear," Reggio told VentureBeat, emphasizing the company's focus on complete automation.
Brex's shift comes from the realization that narrowly focused agents are more modular, flexible, and auditable for their specific needs. The company envisions a future where every manager within an enterprise has a single point of contact within Brex, managing responsibilities such as spend management, travel requests, and spend limit approvals.
The financial services industry has been an early adopter of AI and machine learning. Brex's move towards an Agent Mesh represents a departure from conventional orchestration methods, potentially impacting how other fintech companies approach AI integration in their operations. The company anticipates this architectural change will streamline processes and improve efficiency for its clients. The exact financial investment in this new AI infrastructure was not disclosed.
