A brawl erupted at a march in Washington today, five years after the January 6th Capitol attack. Dozens of supporters of the attack gathered to protest, including pardoned rioters. The incident occurred when a counter-protester disrupted speeches with a bullhorn.
The counter-protester called the marchers "traitors." One attendee attempted to seize the bullhorn. Police then handcuffed and arrested the counter-protester. The march marked five years since the January 6th insurrection.
Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader, spoke at a rally before the march. Tarrio, convicted and later pardoned for his role in the attack, stated the march was to protest the death of Ashli Babbitt. Babbitt was killed by Capitol police during the January 6th riot.
The January 6th attack was a violent attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Supporters of then-President Trump stormed the Capitol building. They aimed to prevent the certification of electoral votes.
Further demonstrations are expected throughout the day. Police presence remains high in the area. The investigation into the brawl is ongoing.
