Nick Reiner's Attorney Withdraws from Murder Case
LOS ANGELES - Alan Jackson, the high-powered attorney representing Nick Reiner, who is charged with the first-degree murder of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, withdrew from the case on Wednesday during a court hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court. The announcement came as Reiner, 32, appeared in court but did not enter a plea, according to BBC World.
Jackson, speaking outside the court after the hearing, stated that he believed his now-former client was innocent, according to Reuters. He did not elaborate on the "circumstances" that led to his withdrawal.
Nick Reiner is accused of fatally stabbing his parents, producer-actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, on December 14 in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home, according to NPR News. The Reiners were found dead with stab wounds in their bedroom, according to BBC World.
The departure of Jackson leaves Nick Reiner without legal representation as he faces charges of first-degree murder. The search for a new attorney will likely delay further court proceedings.
