Google's Quantum Computer 'Willow' Unveiled in Sub-Zero Lab
Santa Barbara, CA – Google unveiled its most powerful quantum computer, codenamed "Willow," housed in a secretive lab in Santa Barbara, California. The computer, described as looking like a golden chandelier, operates in what is considered the coldest place in the universe, according to BBC Technology and BBC Business reports.
Economics editor Faisal Islam of BBC was granted access to the facility. He described the quantum computer as pivotal technology with implications for financial security, Bitcoin, government secrets, and the global economy. "What I am looking at is not just the most powerful computer in the world, but technology pivotal to financial security, Bitcoin, government secrets, the world economy and more," Islam stated.
Willow is suspended a meter in the air and lacks the traditional components one might expect from a computer, such as screens, keyboards, or holographic head cams. Quantum computing is poised to determine which companies and countries will succeed in the 21st century, according to both BBC reports.
