U.S. Conducts Retaliatory Strikes Against ISIS in Syria Following Deadly Ambush
WASHINGTON – The United States launched a new round of retaliatory strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in Syria on Saturday, following an ambush last month that killed two U.S. soldiers and one American civilian interpreter, according to U.S. Central Command.
The large-scale strikes, conducted alongside partner forces, occurred around 12:30 p.m. ET and targeted multiple ISIS locations across Syria, Fortune reported. The strikes are part of a broader operation in response to the deadly ISIS attack in Palmyra that killed Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, and Ayad Mansoor Sakat, the civilian interpreter, according to Fortune.
The U.S. Central Command did not release specific details on the locations targeted or the extent of the damage inflicted.
The recent strikes underscore the U.S. military's commitment to combating ISIS and protecting American personnel in the region. "Our message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world," Fortune reported.
