Slackbot, the automated assistant integrated into Slack, is now an AI agent, according to Salesforce. The cloud software giant released the updated Slackbot Tuesday, which is available for Business and Enterprise customers.
The new AI-powered Slackbot can locate information, compose emails, and schedule meetings directly within the Slack platform, the company stated. It can also integrate with other enterprise applications like Microsoft Teams and Google Drive, with user permission, to retrieve information. This allows users to operate across multiple common enterprise applications without exiting Slack.
Salesforce CTO Parker Harris expressed hope that the AI Slackbot would achieve the same level of widespread adoption as OpenAI's ChatGPT. Salesforce, along with its competitors, is investing heavily in AI product development to maintain and expand its market position. The remodeled Slackbot, initially revealed at Salesforce's Dreamforce conference in October, is part of Salesforce's broader AI strategy.
The integration of AI into platforms like Slackbot reflects a larger trend in the tech industry. Companies are racing to incorporate AI to automate tasks, improve efficiency, and offer more intelligent services. This development raises questions about the future of work and the role of AI in daily operations. As AI agents become more capable, they could potentially handle a wider range of tasks, impacting job roles and requiring workers to adapt to new technologies.
The next-generation Slackbot is a component of Salesforce's enterprise AI plan. The company has not yet released details on further integrations.
