Startup GRU Space to Build Lunar Hotel, Accepting Reservations

GRU Space, a startup founded by recent UC Berkeley graduate Skyler Chan, announced it is now accepting reservations for a hotel on the Moon. Deposits range from $250,000 to $1 million, according to Ars Technica. The ambitious project aims to establish lunar habitats within six years.

The company publicly announced its intent to construct a series of increasingly sophisticated habitats on the Moon, culminating in a hotel inspired by the Palace of the Fine Arts in San Francisco. The invitation to reserve a berth was extended on Monday.

Despite the company's small size, with Chan noting in late December that GRU Space had only one full-time employee besides himself, the project is targeting the emerging space tourism market. GRU Space hopes to capitalize on the long-term potential of tourism on the Moon.

The venture could significantly impact the nascent space tourism industry, pending successful development and execution.
