The Trump administration apologized in court for wrongly deporting a Massachusetts college student. Lucia Lopez Belloza, 19, was detained at Boston's airport on November 20. She was deported to Honduras two days later.

The deportation occurred despite a court order. The order, issued November 21, mandated she remain in the U.S. for 72 hours. Lopez Belloza, a Babson College freshman, was flying home for Thanksgiving.

The administration argued the error shouldn't affect her case. Lopez Belloza is currently in Honduras, studying remotely. She is staying with her grandparents and recently visited an aunt in El Salvador.

This case echoes similar incidents. Kilmar Abrego Garcia was wrongly deported to El Salvador. The Supreme Court intervened before his return. Another Guatemalan man, O.C.G., was also returned to the U.S. after a judge's ruling.

The court will now decide the next steps in Lopez Belloza's case. The focus remains on whether the acknowledged error will lead to her return.
