Report: Boeing Knew of Flaw Before Fatal UPS Crash
A recent report by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reveals that Boeing was aware of a structural flaw in the engine mounting assembly of MD-11 aircraft, a design originally produced by McDonnell Douglas, years before a UPS plane crash in Kentucky that resulted in 15 fatalities. Despite identifying the issue, Boeing, which acquired McDonnell Douglas in 1997 and continued to provide support for the MD-11, had previously concluded that the flaw did not pose a flight safety risk, raising questions about oversight and risk assessment in the aviation industry.
