WINTER STORM HALTS HOLIDAY TRAVEL

A major winter storm is slamming the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northeast this holiday weekend. Heavy snow and ice are creating dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service warns of treacherous travel. Whiteout conditions are expected in some areas. Over a foot of snow could fall in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The storm system is intensifying. Arctic air is descending into the Plains. Conditions are expected to last through Tuesday.
