Ukrainian Missile Museum Serves as Reminder of Nuclear Disarmament

POBUZKE, Ukraine - Deep within the farm fields of southern Ukraine lies a stark reminder of the nation's past: the Museum of Strategic Missile Forces. The former secret Soviet intercontinental ballistic missile launch site now chronicles the Cold War arms race between the Soviet Union and the United States, while also highlighting Ukraine's decision to relinquish its nuclear arsenal.

According to NPR, the museum tells the story of Ukraine's disarmament. Hennadiy Vladimirovitch Fil, 65, a former deputy commander of the Soviet Union's 309th Missile Regiment, now works as a guide at the museum. He was photographed on December 5 standing near an old Soviet air defense missile.
