Several vacuums have emerged as top contenders for effectively managing pet hair, according to recent testing by pet-owning colleagues. The Dyson Gen5 Detect, Bissell PowerClean FurFinder, Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Plus, and Bissell Pet Hair Eraser were identified as leading options across various categories.
The Dyson Gen5 Detect, priced at $999 (originally $1,050), was highlighted as the best cordless vacuum for pet hair due to its illuminating light feature. Testers noted its effectiveness in identifying and removing embedded pet hair.
For a more budget-friendly cordless option, the Bissell PowerClean FurFinder, available for $235 (originally $260), was recognized as the best cheap cordless vacuum. The Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Plus, priced at $70 (originally $100), stood out as the best handheld vacuum for pet hair, while the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, costing $90, was named the best cheap handheld vacuum.
The challenge of cleaning pet hair lies in its diverse nature. Short, coarse hair, like that of one tester's cat Basil, becomes easily embedded in fabrics and carpets. Long, fluffy hair, such as that of another tester's cat Clover, tends to accumulate in hard-to-reach corners. The vacuums were evaluated on their ability to address these different types of pet hair.
The testing process involved a dozen vacuums, encompassing traditional corded models, cordless options, handheld devices, robotic cleaners, and even 2-in-1 vacmop combinations. The goal was to determine which vacuum performed best in removing pet hair from various surfaces.
